A new 30,000 watt photo voltaic solar panel array has been installed at 8 Cabot Road in Woburn and will generate approximately 40 percent of the energy used by common area systems. Cummings’ previous solar arrays (at TradeCenter 128) were installed entirely on the parking garage roof. At 8 Cabot, 20 of the 110 panels are installed on the building’s façade. They act as awnings over the south-facing windows, further saving cooling energy and are visible reminders of the building’s energy-saving features.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Task Force urban search and rescue team spent three days training at the Cummings Center parking garage recently. "Parking garages are typically good training sites," said Team leader Mark Foster. The advanced "ropes operation course" was taught to 35 team members who practiced using the ropes to move equipment, patients, rescuers and rescue dogs. Here Comes the Sun!

Cummings Properties completed the first phase of a major 200 kW photovoltaic solar panel installation at TradeCenter 128 in Woburn. Following approval by local authorities, Cummings employees assembled and installed the 518 - 3' x 5' solar panels in a 36-hour period.

The solar panel array will produce more than 107,000 kilowatts of very green power per year. To view a real time graph of the power generated by the panels, click here.

Partially funded by a grant by the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, the panel array will generate upwards of 10 percent of the common area lighting and HVAC systems at 300 TradeCenter. It is among the largest solar installations to date in Massachusetts.

The system consists of 518 Canadian Solar panels, a 95 kW Solectria Inverter, and Unirac support racks supplied by Munro Distributing of Fall River, Massachusetts.

This nationally recognized distinction identifies recipients as being amongst the most energy efficient buildings in the nation. Commuters coming off I-93 at Exit 39 in Wilmington will soon be treated to the sight of the renovated 340 Fordham Road building. A 4-foot by 8-foot sign displaying the rendering of the building was created by Cummings Design Department members Ben Eaton and Suzanne Lee. As part of the renovation, 340 Fordham will receive a new energy-efficient synthetic stucco exterior, new entries, doors and windows. The 30,000 SF, one-story office/R&D building is available now for lease.
