Center for Savings

In conjunction with National Grid we just completed the replacement of nearly 15,000 light fixtures and ballasts with energy-efficient fixtures throughout Cummings Center! The energy-efficient upgrade is projected to save a reported 800,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year, for an estimated annual savings of $130,000 in client energy costs!

More Parking on Deck

Free parking at Cummings Center will soon become even more plentiful! Construction continues on a new parking deck at the north end of Cummings Center, directly off Balch Street. The new parking deck will provide clients and their patrons with an additional 170 parking spaces in close proximity to the building. Slated for completion this summer, it is another example of Cummings Center's continuing effort to provide additional conveniences for its clients.

Learning the Ropes

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Task Force urban search and rescue team spent three days training at the Cummings Center parking garage recently. "Parking garages are typically good training sites," said Team leader Mark Foster. The advanced "ropes operation course" was taught to 35 team members who practiced using the ropes to move equipment, patients, rescuers and rescue dogs. "In any rescue team, you may need to lower someone into a hole or off a building," Foster said. To see more photos from the training, visit

Saves Energy and Looks Great!

In Cummings Properties continuing efforts to improve the look and energy efficiency of its properties, in-house construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the facade upgrade at 340 Fordham Road in Wilmington. In addition to dramatically enhancing the building's exterior appeal, the new insulating synthetic stucco surface and low-E glass windows also help to lower energy costs. Seeding the Business Landscape

A Banner Day

The largest marketing pieces produced to date by the Cummings Graphics Department have arrived! These Texas-sized "Lease Now" banners measure 10 feet by 29 feet and are mounted on the exterior of the TradeCenter 128 drum and drive-thru annex. The banners are made from a durable vinyl mesh material allowing patrons in the suites behind the banner to see through them.

Doing the Moonwalk

New TradeCenter 128 client, The Sports Spa, now features the Alter-G antigravity treadmill which was designed by NASA engineers and is reportedly capable of unloading up to 80 percent of a user’s body weight. It is the only treadmill of its kind in Massachusetts. It’s one small step for man, one giant step for The Sports Spa!

Wild Kingdom

The natural surroundings at 144 North Road in Sudbury got a little wilder with the arrival of a rafter of wild turkey. The beautiful views of the Sudbury River basin are further enhanced by occaisional glimpses of wild turkey, deer, and other wildlife. LEED compliant construction helps protect the environment. The first tenant of this recently completed building will move in this February.

Pedestrians in the Sky, with Bridges

It's a's a wait, it's a third pedestrian bridge soaring across the skyline at Cummings Center! This dramatic, modern contrast to the rugged concrete buildings spans Center Drive and extends from the third floor of building 900 directly into building 100. Clad with a glass and aluminum skin, these three gleaming structures provide excellent direct access for clients on the upper floors and protect pedestrians from the elements. General manager Steve Drohosky says, "These are just another part of our constant improvement program at this city within a city."

Here Comes the Sun!

Cummings Properties completed the first phase of a major 200 kW photovoltaic solar panel installation at TradeCenter 128 in Woburn. Following approval by local authorities, Cummings employees assembled and installed the 518 - 3' x 5' solar panels in a 36-hour period.
The solar panel array will produce more than 107,000 kilowatts of very green power per year. To view a real time graph of the power generated by the panels, click here.
Partially funded by a grant by the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, the panel array will generate upwards of 10 percent of the common area lighting and HVAC systems at 300 TradeCenter. It is among the largest solar installations to date in Massachusetts.
The system consists of 518 Canadian Solar panels, a 95 kW Solectria Inverter, and Unirac support racks supplied by Munro Distributing of Fall River, Massachusetts.

Energy Star Honor

900 Cummings Center has just received the prestigious Energy Star rating. This nationally recognized distinction identifies recipients as being amongst the most energy efficient buildings in the nation. Other Company buildings which have received the Energy Star rating are 92 Montvale Avenue in Stoneham and 196 Boston Avenue in Medford.

All Signs Point to Wilmington

Commuters coming off I-93 at Exit 39 in Wilmington will soon be treated to the sight of the renovated 340 Fordham Road building. A 4-foot by 8-foot sign displaying the rendering of the building was created by Cummings Design Department members Ben Eaton and Suzanne Lee. As part of the renovation, 340 Fordham will receive a new energy-efficient synthetic stucco exterior, new entries, doors and windows. The 30,000 SF, one-story office/R&D building is available now for lease.

Good Service is a Year-round Commitment!

This weekend brought yet another winter storm to the Boston area. A reported 13 total inches fell between Sunday and Monday, but the Cummings' Snow Team was hard at work making sure that the abundant free-parking lots of Cummings Properties were clear for the arrival of clients first thing Monday morning.

Annual Employee Party

More than 300 Cummings employees and their guests enjoyed an evening of dining, dancing and camaraderie at the 2009 Annual Employee Party. Thirteen ten-year anniversary employees, two twenty-year anniversary employees and three thirty-year anniversary employees were all honored at the gala event. With nearly 40 years in the greater Boston commercial real estate market, Cummings employees have a cumulative 2,000-plus years of experience!
